Karnivool at The Roundhouse

On Thursday last week, I saw Karnivool live for the first time. There was one point where I wonder if I’d ever get to seem them live, given the almost 13-year wait between the last two albums.

However, the wait for the new album and seeing them live was absolutely worth it. I really like the new album and have played it heavily since it came out. I got it on vinyl too, although it remains unopened, something I’ll have to address soon.

I’m not a massive fan of the Roundhouse in Camden. I saw Louis Cole there last year and didn’t think the acoustics in there make anything sound good.

This time for Karnivool I booked seats. I’m 5 foot 9 and 40 years old, so I think the days of standing up for an entire gig with tall people in front of me are over.

Karnivool sounded great, and I thought their set list was fantastic, except for the omission of Reanimation from their new album, which I was a bit disappointed about.

That said, there was a really healthy balance of new and old material, and I was particularly pleased to hear ‘We Are’ from the last album.

Set List:
Ghost
Simple Boy
Aozora
Goliath
Drone
We Are
Deadman
All It Takes
Animation
Themata
Roquefort
New Day
Encore:
Opal
Salva

Karnivool are so unbelievably tight live, and with such a strong set list, the night flew by.

I just about got the last train home.

Worth it.
